Digital Fund Managers: Why AI Will Replace Investment Teams | Ep. 101

In this episode, experimenting with Whisper Flow, Notion Mail, and Claude for copywriting revealed how abstracting knowledge work to AI creates institutional-quality decision-making that no human team can match consistently.

Key Takeaways:

  • Whisper Flow Unlocked 50%+ Time Savings Forcing the habit shift from typing to speaking collapsed response times while reducing distraction, with Claude reformatting transcripts into brand-appropriate communication style.
  • AI Will Replicate Institutional Knowledge Imagine loading every past deal, conversation, pricing data, and macro indicator into an LLM that never gets tired or distracted, this isn’t sci-fi but the logical endpoint of current technology trajectories.
  • Legal Work Democratization is Here Drafting a complete LLCA through ChatGPT reduced attorney review costs from $10-15K to under $1K, with AI handling complex vesting structures and IP assignments that previously required significant billable hours.

Tune in to hear why the AI 2027 paper predicting knowledge worker displacement seems increasingly realistic based on daily hands-on experience with these tools.

(Podcast transcript below)

Hi, Chris Duff over at Serious Land Capital, vacant land funding partner. I think this might actually be episode 100 or 98. Maybe 101 might have missed already that arbitrary milestone. But, you know, just excited to continue to bring more more value on a daily basis here. Days are just flying by and so many

updated milestones to continue to report on and weekly updates accordingly as we all navigate the ever-changing market and technological shifts and just environmental circumstances that are part of being a business owner and an entrepreneur today.

I really wanted to continue on that discussion on AI from yesterday and always primarily remarking on, you know, using audio for, or, you know, as verbal instructions within apps now. And I think just continuing to think and already experiment more and more with AI, it just warrants kind of further.

discussion and level setting here. just like the speed of where we’re going. think unless you’re really using these tools on a day by day basis, it’s just harder to grasp. Like the speed is just, it’s dizzying. I know I had remarked already that, we could be in line over the next few years with that AI 2027 paper that all of us as knowledge workers just

could be, you know, kind of, you know, swept under the rug in terms of still having necessary capabilities to participate within the market and the greater economy overall. like these are just such seismic possible shifts that every single day to seem more and more realistic.

based on own experiences with the technology. even practicing over these last couple of days, I just feel like my own company, we’ve just unlocked an extra step function level of productivity here, both with myself, my core VA, in terms of each of our capabilities.

And a lot, you know, has to even do with that whisper flow, like even using it for a day, now two days and so forth. It’s just already starting to build a new default setting to where, um, again, I’m, you know, especially for certain block texts, you know, I’m decreasing time spent on responses by like 50 % or more. Um, which is just, you know, opening up so much extra time within the business that

like, okay, I need almost reset expectations as far as what else can be done within the business to move even faster. with, with all this in mind and, you know, I’ve been using notion for a while. mean, it’s a very popular company, well-funded and they just launched notion mail here too. I used to use superhuman way back in the day. I’m in charge and arm and a lag to use that.

as basically, you know, just a, a scan on top of Gmail. Where it’s like Notion, you know, I still think I have a free account with it. And now it can just like link all of my emails together similar to how I did with Superhuman. And now even, you know, installing this today with some of those like AI labeling features, you know, there’s a little bit of learning curve to it.

to just using Gmail but like most of the macros still work plus I think it’s even less distracting for me because it’s in a separate app so I would struggle so much when I just had like an open you know tab within my browser you know across all the different email accounts or like Gmail you know domains and specifically different

Usernames associated with each of those domains So, you know, there’s a whole bunch of different emails and so forth and they will all have tabs open I would just find myself distracted. Okay checking here and there just by reflex I’m sure many of you can relate to that. Whereas, you know even within the past 12 hours updating To notion it’s like okay now I can just close out all those tabs and have my email on one place where

I don’t need to check it as often because it’s not as in front of my face. So like even that is a little enhancement. Plus it’s just a cleaner interface overall. And with the AI capabilities, I think it’s going to be even smoother to utilize. Like there were some, I really liked Gmail overall and they, you who continues to improve it. But there were certain like finicky features that just made it difficult to kind of fully sort out certain types of mail.

within the base infrastructure. I think notion already is going to have a better, a better hold of that. That’s only going to get smarter over time. So that’s another avenue there. And then like, again, just kind of the default processing to always just, okay, can I solve this problem with AI now is like just a first step in the process or even, know, giving another example where even something so basic, like I wanted

you know, for my new weekly get serious news, um, email, wanted to add like a small subscribe, um, uh, call to action within our serious land capital website. And so, you know, I just reached out to the web developer. Hey, can we just like put this down at the bottom left here? And he was like, okay, can you, you know, get me a header subheader? What’s the CTA say? And like normally, you know, especially for something so small like that, I might just think of something.

basic and use my own brain power to kind of figure out, what’s best processing. But in this circumstance, you know, just pulled up.

Did I use Claude in this instance? Yeah Claude Yeah, I’m positive. use Claude and Kalin recommends that mainly for content production versus Chetch-e-pt I kind of go back and forth between them. But yeah, I mean I just prompted Claude with using my whisper flow like, you know world-class copywriter for and web designer Etc, etc

and create kind of punchy header, subheader, CTA here. I’m really not sure what to do. I’m a bit nervous on the impact of my words, how I really want to make sure this is fitting the avatar of people who are going to be visiting our site. Here’s again, like, and I wasn’t building it into a separate project either, so it didn’t have the background of

serious land capital and all that so I had explained a little bit more of the context of our company and I’m like, you know, produce three or four different options and then we’ll narrow it down from there. Again, ask me any key questions, clarifying questions on what might be needed to resolve this better and provided me for and I really liked one of the options and then it asked me like, okay.

Give me some more info about your business and the avatar you’re reaching out to, how often this newsletter is going out. So I answered those. It created a little bit more punchy, targeted header, subheader, and CTA. And I was done in less than five minutes and sending that right over to my web developer, again, within the Notion email, and just, you know, whisper flowing that back in and…

It just, literally feels like a superpower for being able to offload some of your brain decision-making processes to, you know, these are important things to keep building the business, but they’re not like critical for taking a lot of, you know, just neural energy when you can just offload to like, you know, basically better decision-making than, than you in regard to some of these processes. So

very excited about that. And like I was talking yesterday, it’s just like, how far can you abstract out? Like all of us as knowledge workers, you know, again, just imagine like you’re, in charge of like a huge fund or like us, you know, even serious land capital and so forth. Like if I had the context of

You know built within AI like every single deal that we’ve ever done a every single question that was asked Within that deal what type of results that we got on it? What were some of like the You know key red flag areas that tend to hit us hardest in terms of You know outputs, you know where it was certain were certain

Values of properties more likely to be profitable or not You know and and take into account Like all conversations my partners and I have had or internally anything with that we’re discussed with brokers and so forth I pretty much all past decision-making and conversations thrown into context and then can Be reviewing any current deals

but also if you could connect that with all available pricing data, most recent in certain areas and taking into account macroeconomical decisions. Like all of a sudden, no human being, matter how smart they were, they couldn’t possibly operate on

that type of level consistently to where, you know, people are like, yeah, you know, no one’s going to like just deploy money through an LLM, it’s, it’s not necessarily like that. You’re not thinking as, as, as deeply about where this technology is going because soon enough, again, the technology is already heading in this direction. Like we will be able to effectively replicate, all, know, kind of past decision-making.

updated lines of thinking plus have just data across the macro and relevant micro economies that just is impossible to hold within one piece of your brain or like take even like, don’t know, huge institutional funding, know, chase whatever, BlackRock, all of that, like you could have all of their internal institutional knowledge across all their different lines of business to take into account.

proper diversification and deployments in specific sectors. Like no human being could do that. And even if they could on their best day, humans are fallible, right? Like, okay, what if, you you’re feeling ill that day or you just, you lost a couple hours of sleep. You’re just not quite, quite focused. And so, you know, these technologies are just not going to falter in that way.

And none of this is like new ideas, right? Like Bridgewater, Ray Dalio, like they’ve been trying to do this for decades and they probably had very sophisticated technology for the time, using all these spreadsheet analysis and try to make more objective investment decisions, removing the emotion out of it. But like the tech nowadays with the AI and the LLMs, like it’s just dramatically, dramatically better.

and only getting better on like an exponential pace week by week. So I think that, you know, line of thinking that’s not new is all of a sudden going to become much more realistic to where, yeah, all of a sudden you could have some, you know, hide my brain within these different institutions that can actually control and deploy capital into, you know, whatever type of investments just because it’s going to be more informed and smarter.

across the entire business operation and like then why are you really paying for any employees or you know, even if your partners and so forth in the firm maybe the know, the hive mind can just raise outside capital even more like Again, you abstract out far enough and you start to realize whoa There’s there’s gonna be some major major changes on their horizon here and the one those of us that are

fast to kind of take this up we’re gonna, you know, hopefully reap reap as many of rewards as possible, Just wanted to mention some other thoughts here. Obviously you can probably perceive my Excitement about some of this Every day is just new. I’m actually you know writing an entire LCA for land Pricer within within chat GPT and You know, then I’m have a attorney tweak

little bit here and there as needed, you know, before LLMs, this was like, you know, 10 to 15 K worth of work at the higher end, especially a little bit more complexity thrown in now, like, could probably keep it below a thousand bucks as far as actual legal review process. So the democratization of small businesses is just, it’s wild nowadays. Like I think way more.

Impactful even then like the internet and so forth the internet, you know You it’s still like a lot of tech expertise is harder to get resources now It’s like all this stuff is so cheap if you have an internet connection So even amongst the macro economy and all the craziness like you just you can’t keep these genes in the model It’s just progress is going to keep going forward with that in mind funding Needs for your land business.
