Leaders Deliver Results: Finding Victory in Challenging Markets | Ep. 77

This episode uses Sunday reflection to examine high performance mindset through the lens of Robin Sharma’s quote “victims make excuses, leaders deliver results” and Trevor McGregor’s framework of “victim versus victor on the way to victory.” The discussion grounds abstract mindset principles in historical examples from early 1900s physics breakthroughs, including Einstein’s 1918 general relativity work during World War I and quantum mechanics advances throughout the Great Depression and pre World War II era, demonstrating that foundational human achievements occurred during periods of extreme global chaos.

Key Takeaways:

  • Historical Context Defeats Present Catastrophizing Physicists achieved humanity’s most foundational discoveries during World War I, the Great Depression, and the lead up to World War II, proving current challenges pale compared to past conditions where success still occurred.
  • Optimists Create the Future Regardless of Conditions Making sound decisions and maintaining focus on goals works across market conditions, as demonstrated by five years of navigation through multiple real estate market shifts.
  • Sunday Reflection Sets Weekly Intention Using Sundays for catch up work and goal alignment prevents Monday from hitting like a disaster and maintains consistency that drives results.

Hi, Chris Duff over at Serious Land Capital vacant land funding partner. So on Sundays, um, you know, I’ve wanted to take, uh, some of these podcasts and more of a, um, overall mindset and, uh, perhaps like kind of overarching business strategy or, know, in, relation to high performance mindset, how, how it can affect your actual business. Um,

You know, I, I know a lot of other high performers tend to use Sundays, oftentimes to set their intentions for the coming week and, um, you know, make sure that, uh, you know, when Monday comes around, it doesn’t, it doesn’t hit you like a ton of bricks. Um, it’s like to use it for a bit more, um, reflection and, you know, as necessary catch up here. Uh, and.

you know, part of that just requires showing up and staying consistent. So you can continue to get the results that you’ve kind of set out for yourself in terms of the various goal setting that was important to you. you know, I definitely didn’t want to do this one today. I think I’ve caught another bug from…

my toddler for second time in a month here and not feeling well as I record this, not in the slightest, but you know, it’s the consistency that drives the results here and you know, just have to rally for the sake of you all and staying true to my own goals here. So I was reflecting a lot more on a quote by Robin Sharma,

a pretty well-known author, 5AM Club might be his famous book. had a new book out. I have it on my shelf. The Wealth Money Can’t Buy. And he was just remarking that victims make excuses, leaders deliver results. Another form of this type of quote and sentiment, my coach Trevor McGregor,

you know, says, you know, you, you, can either be a victim or a victor on the way to victory. And I think in this environment, especially where there’s a ton of noise going on, a lot of, you know, overall negative macro indicators, that has a lot of people on edge, you know, paralyzing some wondering, what should I really do here?

you know, questioning the conditions in which you’re operating and whether you still might be able to find success. Um, you know, I keep going back to these, uh, mindset shifts of, you know, having more of a victorious mindset and that, leaders find ways to deliver results, regardless of the circumstances that, uh, they might find themselves in. Um,

And I think this was, while that overall sentiment can, okay, you can kind of apply it generally here, some other specific circumstances, because I think everybody feels it, right? We’re all social creatures, so what’s going on from a macro perspective, someone must pay more attention than others. I don’t have my…

Um, you know, and, and, and, Tana completely turned off here, but, know, I also am not just routinely checking news and updates and getting super distracted by various political, uh, dealings. Cause it’s just, it’s, not effective to, um, uh, get closer to the goals that I’ve set out for myself and, know, can still succeed in spite of, uh, uh, whatever circumstances might be ongoing when you.

you continue to make sound decisions, um, you know, regardless of, of market conditions and my team and I have proved that again and again, um, uh, even over the past five years, uh, of, which there have been, you know, many different, uh, environmental shifts, um, especially as it pertains to the overall real estate market. So, um, you know, I’ve gotten

comfortable and sudden or even somewhat gradual changes or whatever might be on ongoing care. And just knowing that we still have so many more advantages compared to other folks in different time periods, especially where the future is created by optimists. And I try never to lose sight of that ultimately.

And again, kind of a stark example, I’ve been, you some of my favorite types of books to read are more oriented around theoretical physics. Yeah, I’m not much of a mathematician at all. think, you know, abstract.

Yeah, deeply, calculation intensive, math is, is, kind of a mathemata to myself. those were the, that was the subject I probably struggled with, the, most in, in, educational, career here. And yeah, you might point to, Hey, you know, Chris, your funder have like a clear, head for the numbers and all that. Yes. Okay. That.

that is much more, you know, kind of logically grounded and so forth. But, you know, when it gets into calculating various, you know, astronomical principles or deep ultra microscopic processes like that is way over my head. I tip my hat to those individuals whose minds are more suited to that. You know, but…

you know, reading over the histories and so forth. You know, going back especially to the early 1900s when a lot of the foundational discoveries were made within the realm of physics here, you know, when you actually look at the timestamps on some of these. And it’s not like some of these happened overnight, but you know, consistent years of work to arrive. But know, still like when the, when Einstein really cracked

general relativity that was 1918, I believe, right in the middle of World War I. So all this progress was still occurring as the world itself was kind of falling apart and on a razor’s edge of where geopolitical divides might ultimately settle. a lot of the

largest discoveries, particularly in relation to quantum mechanics. A lot of that happened in the late 1920s throughout the 1930s, where there was obviously the Great Depression was happening. know that was primarily focused on the domestic side from US, but there was definitely economic hardship.

all around the world that obviously led to world war II for any of the history buffs out there. So, you know, still all of this ongoing work, like truly, triumphant in intellectual, achievements were, made during these times of just, you know, utter chaos in, in, in the world here. So, and I think any of us like,

looking at the position we’re in today, regardless of all the kind of noise I’m going and there certainly are, are, you know, issues that need to be addressed, but I don’t know any of us who would, you know, trade the circumstances of, you know, the late 1910s or, you know, the mid 1930s for now. And to understand and, you know, just look at the resource difference as well here and just understand. Yeah. I mean, these, these folks were, they were still focused.

on making progress and figuring out how to push their abilities within their chosen field to the absolute max. And I take a lot of heart from that where, hey, again, these guys could have just been, know, for me, the world’s going to, you know, down the tube here. But, you know, instead they saw themselves as victors on their way to victory. Or again, from the Robert Sharma side, you know, they were

they were leaders who were delivering results, results that are still standing the test of time 100 years later, that are some of, the most foundational achievements that humanity as a whole has ever figured out. So I like using some of those historical examples to kind of ground myself and realize, yeah, you

of other individuals have been in the midst of various tumult for centuries, thousands of years. They found a way to deal with it. The ones who were able to keep themselves together still found a way to succeed in spite of all environmental circumstances. I can do it, you can do it. Those who are able to keep a level head on their shoulders.

And stay focused on again being a leader and delivering results can do it as well. So Just wanted to share some of the more recent Thoughts that have been going through my mind Particularly over the last, you know, two or three weeks or so And hopefully this is helpful to you. I’m even You and my body’s feeling a little bit better than it was before

or right at the start of recording this. So this goes to show again, the kind of the power of the mind and to put yourself in more positive state even when I was feeling so sick right before this. So hopefully this one is helpful. If you are looking for funding Serious Land Capital zero cost review of your land deals and land daily diligence Facebook group and landpricer.ai
