Chris Duff
Managing Partner
Chris serves as Managing Partner at Serious Land Capital, responsible for daily operations, underwriting, and asset management, full-time in the land industry since late 2019.
Under his watch SLC has funded and realized over $6.5M in land deals at 41% operating margins, built on national underwriting across thousands of reviewed transactions. He is also a senior AI advisor for The UnCommon Business and builds the AI systems SLC runs on, including SLC Chat, the firm’s AI underwriting engine.
Prior to his current roles, Chris was a Director at healthcare venture capital firm FundRx (now MBX Capital). He has an MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, and his entrepreneurial and private investment career spans over a decade.
He writes the weekly Serious News newsletter, syndicated on RETipster (the largest media brand and audience in the land investing niche), and hosts the Get Serious podcast.
Melvin Alvarez
Operations Manager
Melvin runs the operational engine at Serious Land Capital: deal intake, marketing operations, and the AI-powered workflows that keep a lean team moving at institutional speed.
Working alongside Chris, he helps build and operate the AI systems behind the firm, from underwriting support tooling to the automation that powers Serious News, applying the same standard to systems the firm applies to deals: test it, verify it, then trust it.
